Thankful for Music Part 4

September 8, 2011 § Leave a comment

Dear friend,

While I was posting the music collection today I thought of this fun Rock and Rattle Band I made in an Elementary Education class in college and these kiddie projects on my pinterest board-they fit perfectly with the groove for Thankful Thursday.  Click the pictures and be swept away to Mini Eco and U Create with Kids for the fun tutorials then make sure to check out the tutorial tomorrow for the Rock and Rattle Band.

Now I am going to jog, wish me luck!  Day no. 4, two days until my first milestone.

Have a good night!

Thankful for Music Part 3

September 8, 2011 § Leave a comment

Dear friend,

Here is the 3rd of 4 posts for Thankful Thursday and they are all about music with the kiddies.  This post is to share a set of music cards I illustrated for a presentation at an Early Childhood Conference.  You can print them out on card stock and color or watercolor them{as I prefer}.  Then you can place them in slipcovers and into a binder. This will give you, on hand, a collection of cue cards to make practicing or singing songs alot of fun.  These are perfect for Primary, youth groups, school classrooms, or just at home for a simple music activity.

Here are some of the pages included:

The idea is that you can pick out a card and that card will tell who or how you get to sing the song next.  There are 33 pages of different options to change up and make practicing or singing those songs fun.  Another great way to get the children excited about practicing the song is to create a die {using a box covered with wrapping paper} and then paste these options on the six sides.  Have a child roll and then the group has to practice the song doing whatever was facing up on the dice.  These are for personal use only but do share with us how you used them and what fun you had.
Download the file here {Music Cards}
Warning: If you do not have LD Elementary downloaded from the text will substitute for another text and may look different.  To remedy this just download the font first by following the Dafonts link and downloading LD Elementary Font.
Enjoy and thanks for visiting!

Thankful for Music Part 2

Dear friend,

Here is the next fun music installment…Vivid Vocals performing Arts DIY: How to make microphones.

I remember in my kindergarten classroom we were lucky enough to have a sound system and a microphone for the students to use when talking to the class.  They felt so special when they got to be in front of the class and holding that microphone.  Before the sound system we had a pretend microphone for morning announcements and that was just as special.  So…when my cousin Tiff showed me the microphones she made for her younger performing students I had to share!

It’s so easy…you need: gorilla glue, PVC pipe piece, 3 inch Styrofoam ball, black spray paint.

First, put a generous amount of gorilla glue around the PVC rim and add the Styrofoam ball.

Second, place a book on the top of the microphones to secure while drying.

Third, spray the Styrofoam with black paint.

Fourth, give to a child and watch the magic happen!

Thanks to Tiffie for letting me share this DIY and thanks cupcake for posing for the pic.  If you live in the Utah Valley area and have a child who loves to perform classes are open for enrollment and I might be a little biased but my cousin is great with kids and her goal is to help children gain confidence and have fun performing in a group.

…and let me know if your kiddies enjoy this activity or have already enjoy performing with a microphone.  Love it!

Dear friend,

McGilly loves music, the perfect way to redirect her when she’s fussy or get her to cheer up is music.  Music makes any day with us even brighter.  First thing we do in the morning is watch a few of her favorite youtube videos while she is waking up and then by the last one we are dancing before breakfast, I love it!  So today I am sharing with you three parts.  First, our wakeup music.  Two, a DIY from my cousin Tiff who is owner of Vivid Vocal Preforming Arts.  And three, a set of music cards for teaching music whether in primary, school, youth group, or at home.

These are some of McGilly’s favorites I had a hard time picking only a few!

Let me know if your kiddies love them too or if you do…would love to hear.

Just wait here comes Thankful for Music Part 2 and a DIY,

Dear friend,

Today has been 11 years since I met my husband.  This very evening, 11 years ago, he walked into my work and the rest is {our history}.  It’s amazing to look back on everything we have been through, all the memories, the laughs, the love, the friendship, and the struggles.  When I met him I knew he was either going to be my best friend or my husband.  I got both.  He has helped me become the woman I am today-he believes that I can do anything.  He thinks I am the most beautiful woman in the world and tells me so.  His first and foremost goal in life is to make our life the one he thinks I deserve.  I have always felt that he sees me through rose colored glasses but seeing myself through his eyes has made me strive to be the woman he already thinks I am and I am better because of it.  To celebrate this day I wanted to write down the {His}tory and the {Her}story of our first meeting..this is coming I am putting it into a free printable binding for you to use for your own OURstory.

I love you R!

Thankful for…Hand me Downs and a Sewing Machine

August 24, 2011 § Leave a comment

Dear friend,

This last weekend while I was at my Mom’s I saw a bag of clothes that my little sister Bailey was sending to the thrift shoppe.  Me–not wanting anything to go to waste rummaged through the bag and look what I found–on the left is the pieces I cut from the thrift shoppe bound clothing and on the left is the sweet clothes I made for McGilly today.  She definitely was not in the mood for dress up so she helped me take pictures of the clothes laying down.  In the circle for each picture is what the original item of clothing was and all I added was a grey unitard that I got from Old Navy.

For all of the skirts I just cut off the shirts at the length I wanted the skirt to be with 1 inch extra for the waistband–then I folded the waistband back and sewed a tunnel for the elastic. After that I threaded through a thin piece of elastic, adjusted the size, sewed the elastic together and then sewed up the hole that I left to get the elastic in.  On the dress I just cut off the extra fabric on the top and then sewed in the straps and the embellishment.  I warn you I am not a seamstress I just like to create using my sewing machine.  My favorite is the white skirt with the fabric necklace.  I kinda want one and the purple skirt and the navy skirt…which one is your favorite?

Have a happy day.

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for hope as you can see by the results of McGilly and my sidewalk chalk fun today. Thankful for Emily Dickenson for her lovely words and thankful for my sweet artist angel.

“The adversary uses despair to bind hearts and minds in suffocating darkness. Despair drains from us all that is vibrant and joyful and leaves behind the empty remnants of what life was meant to be. Despair kills ambition, advances sickness, pollutes the soul, and deadens the heart. Despair can seem like a staircase that leads only and forever downward.

Hope, on the other hand, is like the beam of sunlight rising up and above the horizon of our present circumstances. It pierces the darkness with a brilliant dawn. It encourages and inspires us to place our trust in the loving care of an eternal Heavenly Father, who has prepared a way for those who seek for eternal truth in a world of relativism, confusion, and of fear.”  -President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

What are you thankful for?

Thanks for coming by,

Fun Birthday Printables for you

August 4, 2011 § 2 Comments

Today I am thankful for my family!  I happen to have the best family in the entire world.  I am not pulling your leg or trying to bate an argument I am just stating a fact.  They are the best.  In the last two weeks we have enjoyed Tuesday’s with Grandma and Grandpa Lindsay {relaxing and lovely}, superhero birthday with a surprise guest…it’s a bird, it’s a plane no-it’s Winston?  Yes, Winston our Superman and new addition to the family.  We have had a crafty shmafty day making everything from hooded towels for the kiddies to frosted lanterns, blink necklaces, and DIY flip flops.  I am working on pillow covers tomorrow with my beautiful cousin Bre and my lovely cousin Dani {superman’s soon to be wife}, my grandma is just about the most wonderful person I know, on par with my sisters, brother, and lovable mommy.

Okay I know I am biased but they are beautiful, kind, sweet, smart, super cool and just down right fantastic to be around.  I have aunts and uncles I really look up to each for very different reasons but when you put all the pieces together it is quite a beautiful landscape to be a part of and I consider myself extremely lucky.

Well I started thinking of this because of the little invitations I worked on for my cousin Tiff.  A momma I look up to, and a wonderful cousin and friend to have.  Her and my beautiful cousin Mallory have baby boys that were born within a stones throw of each other.  They are planning a Safari Birthday for the sweeties first birthday’s.  I just finished the printables this week and wanted to share them with you, perfect for end of summer fun.

It began with some jungle animal doodles and then with a little color, here is a blank version just for your expedition {See the links below}.

Next we came up with the idea for Safari posters to put on stakes that the kids could seek out in the backyard bush with their trusty binoculars.  There is a link for each of the animals on their own poster.  Another idea we thought of was to print two copies and play a giant game of memory.

And last we decided, because many little little ones will be in attendance to make a placemat that is a maze and a color page.  Just print on 11X17 and VOILA place mats for .16 cents a piece.  The download that’s below is generic so you can fill in your cuties name.

Happy Birthday Babies and I will share all the cuteness after I attend this fun party!

Two Penny Blue Mom is Here.

June 2, 2011 § Leave a comment

Hello Friend,

Well here we are the first official post of Two Penny Blue Mom and I am excited.  If this post doesn’t have enough text for you, skip and a hop over to the about page for some background information about how this little blog came to be.  To cut to the chase, I wanted to begin a blog that was a journal of my everyday and one that was supporting all the things that I am focusing on right now in my life.  So, I decided to come up with a set of life focuses that define my goals right now for myself and my family and then create a blogging schedule that integrates those things.  So without further ado, here is Life focus No.1 through 4…

Spiritual focus is the first on my list because it is core and center to my life.  Without the gospel without my relationship with my Savior my life would be empty… to put it frankly.  So this focus is about strengthening and nurturing my relationship with my Heavenly Father.  Following Christ’s example is the foundation for this focus.

Taking care of myself so I can take care of others is at the root of this focus.  Taking care of myself tends to fall to the bottom of the list when life gets hectic.  I am going to make sure to take care of myself spiritually {life focus #1}, physically {exercise & nutrition}, and emotionally {finding time for my passion, life focus #4}.  I also want to live a grateful life no matter the place I am at, always be grateful.

My lovely lovely family.  This focus is about first my tall dark and handsome hubby {his grandma used to call him that} and McGilly my 14 month old little girl with the chubby cheeks, her daddy’s eyes and crazy amounts of dark hair.  This focus also includes all of my extended family, who I love oh so much. This focus is especially about not multi-tasking McGilly’s Childhood away,  I want to get down on her level each day and relish in those tender sweet moments.  And about actively strengthening my relationship with my best friend, my hubby, through snippets of us time and keeping kindness and gratitude a part of our daily interaction.  This focus also includes serving others not in my family here on Earth but being aware of all those in our realm of influence and seeking out opportunities to serve and help others.

Last but not least is to create, and keeping my passion for those things that have made me who I am {teaching, art, poetry, creating pretty things}.  I want to meld who I was before I became a mom and new founded motherhood into one, I believe I do this by still seeking after those things I cherished before-helping children, teaching, learning new things, admiring beautiful things, creating new things with new mediums and sharing those with my children {well child and future children}.  My goal as of late is learning the adobe suite, and spending more time hands on creating.  I love creating with fabric, sculpting, photography, graphic design, beautiful correspondence, lovely packaging and really making anything aesthetic to the eye through color and shape. So…this focus will be about creating beauty.

In my religion we have 13 articles of faith to live by and the 13th is one of my favorite sayings on this topic-

“…If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.”

Okay so there you have it, my mini manifesto.  Next is my blogging schedule…

Monday is my Momma Monday- this day will share fun activities from mine and McGilly’s week and spotlight anything exciting we did.  I can envision sharing printables and DIY’s so you can try them out at home.Tuesday is Teacher Tuesday-this day is going to help me stay connected with the profession I love so much and I will be sharing lots of fun ideas and printables from my teaching days and also information from my experience.Wednesday is Weigh-in Wednesday- one of the first things to go when I get under the gun is taking care of myself.  This is going to make me change that.  I will explain more next Wednesday.Thursday is Thankful Thursday- a quick post to be thankful for from the week.Friday is Family and Faith Friday- On this day I am going to talk about, you guessed it, my family and my faith, and show any Family Home Evening fun I find or create and anything wonderful I have spotted across the web.Service Saturday- Because I think that acts service whenever possible should be anonymous, I will link to stories of service rendered to others, fun free printables to aid you in your service endeavors, and fun ideas for serving the ones you love.

Intertwined will be my Doodles of the Day {my 20 min challenge to doodle and design something regularly- you can see all the posts so far under the doodle day category in the left column}  and my Mail for McGilly {a letter from me to my munchkin as journaling has become harder and harder since starting a blog}.

Whew…well if you read all of that you are better than I, I am a visual reader when I frequent my favorite blogs but this was meant more for me  to commit to myself to my mini manifesto, verbalize my goals, and introduce you to Two Penny Blue Mom.

Have a lovely lovely weekend, see you for Momma Monday,
